VMware Workstation 7 RC 預覽版體驗虛擬 Aero

VMware 公司在 10月2日釋出了最新的 VMware Workstation 7 RC 預覽版提供下載, 其中包括了完全支援 Windows 7 及 Aero、支援更多的 OS 系統、3D 圖像 OpenGL 及 Shader Model 3.0 支援、支援 4 核心 32GB RAM、ThinPrint 支援虛擬列印使用主機印表機、Smart Card 強化支援保安認證、256bit AES 虛擬機器加密、支援 IPv6、ALSA 音訊(Linux)、暫停 VM 即時釋放處理器資源、排程自動執行建立 snapshots、支援虛擬硬盤容量擴展、支援 fuse 掛載(Linux)、強化的 Virtual Network Editor 介面、等等, 實在是十分令人期待的進階版本; 已註冊的用戶可以在 VMware 網站登入後下載 Windows 或 Linux 的 32bit 及 64bit 版本。

當然在實測使用 VMware Workstation 7 RC 版體驗時, 一些或多或小的問題情況。

實測使用 VMware Workstation 7 RC 版 Linux 32bit 及 CentOS 5.3 Linux 主機。
VMware Workstation 7 RC 版 Linux 安裝:

• 在安裝前必需先移除舊版的 VMware Workstation(或 VMware Player), 否則安裝錯誤失敗。
• 在 console 文字模式登入 root(使用 su 在圖像介面安裝的話, 文字會出狀態, 查看 .xsession-errors)
• 在 console 文字模式下執行
  # sh VMware-Workstation-Full-7.0.0-197124.i386.bundle
• 閱覽 EULA 文件後在 "Do you agree?" 輸入 yes 確認同意
• 安裝程式顯示提問如下
  Path to Eclipse directory for use with Integrated Virtual Debugger (optional):
  按 [Enter] 鍵略過(一般不用 virtual debugger 的話)
  Do you wish to install the Eclipse C/C++ Debugging plugin? (Reruires Eclipse 3.4.0 or higher and must be properly pre-configured. See documentation for detials) [no]:

• 在 X 圖像介面中登入用戶帳號, 執行 VMware Workstation
• 確認 EULA, 點按 "Accept" (如圖)
• 在 Enter Serial Number: 輸入 50天體驗序號金鑰 (如圖)
• 安裝完成

VMware Workstation 7 RC 版實測情況, 備註:

• guest os 安裝提供了支援 Windows 7 及 Windows 7 64bit,(如圖)如果已安裝的 guest os 使用 Vista (舊版 6.5.3)的話, 更改 guest os"edit virtual machine settings" 設定 Guest Operation System 的 Version。
• guest os(特別是 Windows 7)部分特式的功能需要 Virtual Machine 是 6.5-7 版本,(如圖)舊的版本(例如 6)需要升級執行 VM -> Upgrade or Change Version。
• 如果舊的 guest os 中已經安裝有舊版的 VMware Tools 的話, 需要更新安裝 7RC 的新版本。
• 在新版 7RC 及 VMware Tools 內提供了虛擬顯示介面是 VMware SVGA 3D 256MB,(如圖) 而不是 VMware SVGA II, 不過只使用在 Windows 7/Vista guest os 內, XP guest os 的話仍然是 VMware SVGA II。
• 將新版 7RC 的 VMware Tools 安裝到舊版 VMware Workstation 6.5.x 的 guest os 內, 顯示介面卡驅動程式不能運作失效, 不用妄想啊。
• 7RC 的 Win7 guest os 使用 Unity 在 Linux 主機桌面時, Aero 仍然生效。(如圖)
• Windows 的 activation 啟動激活"可能"會失效(guest os 沒有移動或複製自其他主機的話, 仍然是生效的, 已實測)
• VMware Workstation 7 RC 版 Linux 32bit 在文字系統及 conf.d 似乎有些兼容問題(查看 .xsession-errors 錯誤信息), 程式介面的文字與系統配置字型有不太明顯的差別。

  這是程式使用了自己提供的舊版 Fontconfig 函數庫(/usr/lib/vmware/lib/libfontconfig.so.1/libfontconfig.so.1)的 cache/cachedir 配置模式(~/.fonts-cache-1 檔案), 新版的 Fontconfig 已經改變使用 /var/cache/fontconfig 及 ~/.fontconfig 目錄。
  解決方法是使用系統的 /usr/lib/libfontconfig.so.1, 執行:
  # cd /usr/lib/vmware/libfontconfig.so.1
# mv libfontconfig.so.1 libfontconfig.so.1.0.1
# ln -s /usr/lib/libfontconfig.so.1 libfontconfig.so.1

反安裝移除 VMware Workstation 7 RC 版 Linux 32bit:

• 在 console 文字模式登入 root
• 在 console 文字模式內執行
  # /usr/lib/vmware-installer/1.1/vmware-installer -u vmware-workstation
